Hi, I’m Matisse! I’m an American photographer living in Lisbon, and when I’m not behind the camera capturing moments for travelers and expats, you can usually find me hunting down the best restaurants and cafes in the city. After a lot of taste-testing (and probably too many pastries), I’ve put together this list of my go-to spots—some trendy, some hidden gems, but all worth a visit!
Trendy Restaurants You Can’t Miss
Bar Alimentar (Príncipe Real)
A cozy, intimate spot with an incredible selection of small plates and natural wines, Bar Alimentar is a must for anyone who loves fresh, beautifully presented dishes. The Crudo de Peixe Branco is a personal favorite—I could have easily eaten five of them! Perfect for a relaxed dinner with friends or a date night, this spot has a warm and inviting atmosphere that keeps me coming back. Also they are pet friendly which is a major perk for dog owners and lovers!!
Tasca Pete (Intendente)
If you’re into the charm of tiny restaurants with ever-changing menus, Tasca Pete should be on your list. They focus on seasonal small plates, and while the menu rotates, you can always expect thoughtfully prepared dishes and an excellent wine selection. The intimate setting makes it one of those places where you instantly feel at home. Since it’s small, I’d recommend booking a reservation in advance.
Pomme Eatery (Príncipe Real)
Pomme is one of those places that feels effortlessly cool—minimalist decor, warm lighting, and a focus on quality ingredients. The croquettes here are non-negotiable; trust me, you need to try them. It’s a great spot whether you’re in the mood for a relaxed lunch or a laid-back dinner with friends.
Lupita Pizzaria (Cais do Sodré)
Everyone has an opinion on pineapple on pizza, and I stand by it—Lupita’s Ananas pizza is a must-try. This Neapolitan-style pizzeria is perfect for a casual night out, with its lively atmosphere and delicious, wood-fired pizzas. Whether you love or hate pineapple on pizza, you’ll find something to love here.
O Palmeiral (Príncipe Real)
O Palmeiral is where I go when I want a meal that feels both comforting and indulgent. Their Aubergine Parmigiana is incredible, and if you’re a seafood lover, you can’t go wrong with a pint of prawns. Of course, no meal here is complete without their tiramisu—it’s the perfect sweet ending. This is another spot where reservations are highly recommended!
Kendrick (Avenida)
If you’re looking for a restaurant with bold flavors and a vibrant atmosphere, Kendrick is the place to be. With a menu full of creative, well-executed dishes, it’s a great place to enjoy a night out with friends. Whether you're stopping in for cocktails or a full meal, you’re in for something special.
